Our goal is to broaden each child’s learning experience through play, with group and individual activities, but without structured academics. By experimenting in play, music, and crafts, children develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Children learn to co-operate with others; make friends; celebrate differences; share thoughts and toys; and take pride in their own unique accomplishments.
As a co-operative, the nursery school is wholly owned and run by our parent members as a non-profit organization. An executive committee, comprised of parents and staff, is chosen each year. The executive handles the business of running the nursery school and is assisted in the day-to-day operations and with special projects by committees made up of all the parents. In order to keep our co-operative nursery school operating in an efficient and effective manner, parent responsibilities are divided into two categories: committee participation and school promotion through community events.
The school year runs from September to June. Christmas and winter breaks are based on the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board Calendar. The nursery school is open on PD days. A monthly schedule of special days will be posted on a calendar in the cubby area and will be included in school newsletters. In the event of a school closing due to an emergency or bad weather, an email will be sent out to all families.
Hi! My name is Krista and I am the Director and teacher of the nursery school. I am looking forward to working closely with you and your child. I have experience from different areas in working with children. First and foremost is from my own children. I have experienced the nursery school atmosphere both as a parent and a supply teacher over the years. I have also run a home daycare business for many years. Before staying home with my children I was a teacher and then Head-teacher of a preschool program in Kanata . I truly enjoy nursery school experience and find the rewards endless. I am a registered Early Childhood Educator. I believe in open communication. I am looking forward to meeting you and your child.
The Nursery School is housed in a bright, cheerful space. Each child has his or her own cubby for coats, boots and backpacks. There are many different activity areas set up for the children to explore – reading corner, water and sand tables, dress-up, puzzles, house, play dough, etc.
We also have a great outdoor playground with plenty of room for the children to run and play.
